Cadyville Sauna

Cadyville Sauna, by Dan Hisel

During the lecture Professor Dan Hisel gave as part of the lecture series at Wentworth, he talked about this sauna he built along the Saranac River gorge in upstate New York.
The mirrors replicates how one feels the space while in the sauna, like going through the different stages of experiencing a sauna.  from the body to the sauna to the mirrors/the world.
"As the outer shell disappears in the forest, the body is cancelled within the thick receptacle: the two spaces, even if different, are related. Both dissolve the boundaries between man, architecture and the environment by projecting them in total indeterminacy."

When I fist saw this image during the lecture, I did not see the mirrors and was baffled by how the window and roof was standing with little to no support.  I was amazed to find out it was cladded in mirrors and was able to create such an illusion.  The sauna was camouflaged within the nature, the surrounding environment.
